The Passing of Counseling Program Founder and Professor Emeritus, Dr. Tom Elmore
Dear Wake Forest Counseling Community,
It is with deep sadness that I tell you of the death of Dr. Thomas M. Elmore on Monday, October 29, 2012. Tom, as we all knew him, was 85 and retired from Wake Forest in 1996. He started the counseling program in the Department of Education on a shoestring with just himself and one other full time professor and some adjuncts. The shoestring has now become a shoe as a department of its own with a faculty of 11 and three support staff. Tom saw his vision of what could be become a reality.
A memorial service for Tom will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. at the Knollwood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem (330 Knollwood Street, just off of Business I-40, 336-725-1343). You are invited.
In lieu of flowers please make a gift if you wish in Tom’s honor to either the Thomas M. Elmore Fund in the Department of Counseling at Wake Forest (7406 Reynolda Station, Winston-Salem, NC 27109) or to your favorite charity.
Sincerely,
Sam Gladding
Chair and Professor, Department of Counseling
