Helping Supervisees Navigate Confidentiality with Children and Families
A Supervisor’s Framework for Ethical and Legal Decision-Making
Saturday, September 26
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM MST
Online via Zoom
Free Continuing Education Workshop
Working with children and families can create complex questions involving confidentiality, parental rights, informed consent, access to records, and the ethical responsibilities of counselors and supervisors. These situations can become especially challenging when legal, ethical, clinical, and relational considerations pull in different directions.
This workshop will provide supervisors with a practical framework for helping supervisees navigate these challenges when counseling children and adolescents. Particular attention will be given to the evolving legal landscape surrounding parental rights, minor consent, confidentiality, and access to behavioral health information. Participants will explore strategies for identifying competing responsibilities, working through difficult cases, documenting decision-making, and supporting supervisees in maintaining strong therapeutic relationships while practicing within ethical and legal standards.
