Counseling Experience:

Extensive experience in K-12 education serving in a variety of roles including school counselor, lead middle school counselor, and K-12 district supervisor for school counseling. Counseling adolescents in a community based mental health center. Additional experience in college access programs targeting first-generation college students. Counselor educator (adjunct or full-time) at several universities including North Carolina A and T State University, University of North Carolina Greensboro, and the University of Virginia as coordinator of the middle/secondary school counseling program. Leadership roles in education include assistant superintendent, chief academic officer, deputy superintendent, and interim superintendent.

Current Activities:

For the past 20 years involvement in a number of counseling, educational, and leadership activities. Integration of these disciplines has been primarily practice based.  The work has included program creation, development, assessment, and evaluation. Topics include alternative education, bullying, crisis intervention, personal safety, school discipline, school mental health, school reform, school transformation, social-emotional learning, and community based initiatives focused on improving educational outcomes for all students.

Going forward, I anticipate developing a writing agenda that delves into the targeted area of brief counseling in schools.
